What would you for a Klondike bar?

Well we don’t know about you guys, but we would simply take a buck or two out of our pockets and pay for one to indulge. Now what would you do to go on the most memorable trip of your life?

For us… EVERYTHING! 🙂

One Step Closer!

Last Saturday was our first yard sale, it was a pretty good turn out!! We included baked goods that were delicious and were a hit (with Tania). Though as our first fund raising event we came across a few obstacles (FYI: Tania is no longer handling baked goods!) Tania was excellent on acknowledging every customer about the cupcakes we were selling. On the downside, we were taken advantage of! 😦 Every time we would explain the price of each cupcake, customers would take as many as their hands can hold! (FAIL!) One man rubbed a little frosting on Tania’s nose -__- (enough said!). We had a fin experience and best of all we are doing it again in November! We are excited to see the results and one step closer to our trip!

Goals Within Goals

It may seem to you that we are stuck in a rut, but don’t you worry we have more tricks up our sleeves! (That’s right!) We have recently received our first semi-donation! (Yay!) Even though it was not what we were asking for, The Energizer Company has sent us coupons for a few of their products. We will definitely be using their donation in our trip! (Thanks a bunch!)

On Saturday we will be having our first yard sale! (There will be more.) We’ve been preparing so much for it, by making signs and collecting items to sell. We may even preview our goodies for our future bake sale! Hopefully we will have a great outcome! Our goals for Saturday will help us lead us to our main goal!

September’s Accomplishments

So the end of September officially marked the end of our first month of sending letters to companies asking for their sponsorship. We first decided to make our first month goal of sending out 50 letters but instead we sent a total of 53 letters all to different companies( talk about girl power whhaaa whaaaa). We decided to celebrate our accomplishment by going out to eat ice cream! BUT since we are on a budget we took a coupon (2 for 1 special)! Needless to say it was delicious!

We also recently started volunteering for this program called Americorps which is where we go tutor younger children in grades pre-k to 9. Not only are we setting great examples on giving back to the community, but it is a fun thing to do. In addition to that , we will receive an award at the end of the year, with at at least 300 hours of giving back.

We are still waiting for some reply’s…ANY REPLY’S! Hopefully we’ll have a positive outcome! People Nowadays…

Barnes and Nobles is the place where we find ourselves most productive. Somehow were just smarter there, it must be all the books around us or something. We love this bookstore to death…though the people that make up the bookstore sure are something else…not in a pleasant way (MmmmmHmmm). We suppose it’s all part of the adventure. While we work hard we always encounter some interesting people.

As you’ve all seen our working space, (please see first blog for picture references) it is not a presentable area. We’ve got papers everywhere, envelopes here and there, and a needed power outlet for our laptop. Usually we decide to come late at night to avoid the public, not because we’re famous, but we do have 19 followers…but whatever.(Please subscribe!) A worker (identity concealed for their own safety) comes up and attacks us with words. This worker demanded we clean up our “hazardous” space. This reminded us of our grandma coming after us with a sandal (Not like we would know ;)). That was a sad day. 😦

On another note, one of our tasks involves phone calling, though this becomes difficult when a guy in the aisle in front is trying to flirt very loudly with a girl next to him. She was just minding her business (not into him) on a Friday night (yes we even sacrifice our lively Fridays) but he eventually got her attention and they began to talk very loudly. Just by inactively listening we’ve learned a lot from them, one was a school teacher and the other was in school for psychology. Turns out he convinced her on a date…good job buddy! It was almost like this…

Another obstacle we’ve over came, are our peer customer game players, which we involuntarily signed up for some game here. Its like one giant game of peek-a-boo at the bookstore! Apparently people are trying to get in on our brilliant ideas. People peek through the bookshelf and see what we’re up to. Which we don’t understand because they just stare at us, not like were celebrities we do have blog…but whatever. In return, Tania gets up and peeks around the bookshelf and yells “peek-a-boo we see you,” this definitely makes them feel awkward (don’t hate the player, hate the game).

Lastly, the store’s soundtrack. Need we say boring! We’re not trying to fall as sleep, but just in case we are next to the story time area which will help us take a nap if needed(which we are seriously considering).

A Late Night…

Many of you know that we have already made a list of ways that we could possibly  raise money. Well the plasma situation is not exactly figured out, but we won’t give up! We stayed up all night creating a letter to send to companies asking for their sponsorship, boy it was a looonnng night! We put together 50 letters to different companies and will mail them out ASAP! Our goal is to send out at least 50 letters each month. Hopefully we will get some feedback!  Wish us luck!

Look at us working hard! The only thing that was bothering us was Freddy the fly, we told him not to bother us but he didn’t listen. Sorry Freddy!

Ways to New Zealand and Fiji!

This is a list we came up with various methods to raise money for our study abroad fund.

**WARNING: This list is serious yet humorous, scaled by the level of desperation!**

  1. Apply for grants. (Thats a given)
  2. Apply for scholarships. (That’s a given)
  3. Send letters to companies asking for their sponsorship. (In the process)
  4. Save from paychecks. (Which won’t help much)
  5. Save our coins. (Coinstar!)
  6. Have a yard sale. (Out with the old, in with the Fiji/New Zealand)
  7. Sell our clothes to a second hand store. (Classier Goodwill)
  8. Have a car wash. ( Though two-man car wash might not be effective)
  9. Find and return missing dogs to owners. (Only with flyers that include rewards, we suppose the above flyer won’t help)
  10. Dress up as homeless people for Halloween. (Trick-or-Treat for cans… to sell)
  11. Create a revenue of an in-home wax center. (Does not include: bikini area)
  12. Selling plasma. (Seriously being considered)
  13. Selling sperm. (Might be considered if we were men!)
  14. Selling organs. (We’ll be human lab rats)
  15. Become surrogates. (Hey we’ve got 9 months, better hurry up before September ends!)

While some of these options are too insane, some may be considered. If you have any ideas for us feel free to let us know! To learn more, please visit the “About Us” page where we have a brief description of us and our goals to studying abroad! Please subscribe and we hope you enjoy!

Getting to Work!

Our names are Brittany and Tania hence “BritTania,” this is our first official blog to studying abroad during the summer of 2012 in New Zealand and Fiji. Our goal is to share our thoughts, experiences on how we raise money for our trip, and keep track of our progress.

Initially we thought this could be one of the easiest processes…we thought wrong! After many, many calculations and hours of figuring our trip out we came to realize that this was going to be way out of our budget. So we decided to start this blog to capture our journey and to talk about the different ways we obtain sponsorships.

So we took to the streets to our favorite place to brainstorm. Barnes and Nobles! Unfortunately there weren’t any tables available (we assume that it’s everyone’s favorite place to get some work done, no hard feelings) so we found an open area, with an outlet for power, which happened to be between two bookshelves and got to work.

We started by calling different companies asking for sponsorships for our studies abroad. Which was, at first, very intimidating…though after several attempts we became successful sponsor-name-getting-musketeers! With obtaining the names we will write letters to each of these local and corporate businesses to ask for any contributions for our exciting adventure! Hopefully we will get some responses, all we need to do is to keep our heads up high and our spirits alive!
